A Study of Major Winter Storms for
the Southeast US
**Updated 5/23/05**
I have compiled a set of cases
that I will look more closely into as I
get the time. These will be memorable winter storms, and will focus on
the carolinas and Georgia
but will include other areas in the southeast as well. For you folks in
the NE, I suggest
the Kocin volumes, for now at least I want to focus on areas south of
Virginia.
The method I used is to gather all
availible realtime data that is
availible such
as surface reports, daily climo data, radar, satellite, and upper air
data. And also to download NARR (North American Regional Reanalysis)
data and use GEMPAK to plot
important parameters for diagnosing the event. For more info on what
NARR data is,
please read this link. NARR website
I am always open to suggestions
for case studies. The NARR data is
availible back to 1979. So for cases from
1948 to 1978, I will have to use NCEP reanalysis data which is on a
more coarse resolution.
